My Homebirth Story
My second son was born just three days after Thanksgiving last year. My husband liked to joke that he didn’t know who was going to come out of the oven first, the turkey or him! After having my oldest in a hospital like most women in this modern age, I decided to do something that my family still thinks I’m partially crazy and also superhuman for: delivering my baby at home. Many people these days will tell you that it’s super dangerous to have your baby not in a hospital and some states even have homebirths outlawed entirely. Thankfully for me, not only is having a homebirth legal in my state, there’s also a great deal of support for it in my local community of naturally minded folks.
Painful Periods are Normal…Right?
Have you ever seen the videos of men who go through a period or labor pain simulator? As women we often laugh at men’s reaction to the simulation as they now know the torture many females have to go through on a monthly basis. Although it is absolutely hilarious watching these videos, for many women it can serve as a reminder that having a period means a week or more of curling up in a ball crying, scarfing down loads of chocolate and yelling at their family for breathing. So would you believe me when I tell you that it’s actually NOT normal to be in pain or to be grumpy during a woman’s period?
